Professionally Speaking

Currently I’m an online media consultant helping organisations build their presence online successfully. This involves educating businesses about the opportunities the Internet provides to them, developing social media strategies that promote their services/products and measuring the success of initiatives employed. I use my specialist knowledge about online behaviour to help organisations connect to their audience online and build lasting relationships with them.

In 2008 I began my graduate studies at Nottingham Trent University in the UK enrolled in their MSc in Cyberpsychology programme. Here I gained a deeper understanding of the virtual world and individuals’ online behaviour. My research focused on how persons portray themselves online and also how they interact with each other in cyberspace. Accordingly, I completed a work placement at the UK’s largest online dating site, match.com where I conducted preliminary research for their LoveGeist project.

Prior to this I was at the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill Campus in the island of Barbados where I graduated with an upper second class honours, Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. My thesis was concerned with personality impressions online and explored personality impressions based on online social networking site hi5 user profiles, (at that time in 2008, it was the Facebook of Barbados and probably the wider Caribbean).

Personally Speaking

Above all, I’m a mac user and yes, I’m very satisfied with the performance of my apple toys.

I’ve been very interested in online technology for quite a while. Between getting my hands on must have gadgets, and pondering about what might come next, I was heavily involved in web development since about age 12 or 13. Coupled with my curiosity for and decision to go into psychology also from fairly young, Cyberpsychology was a perfect marriage of my two passions.

I’m particularly interested in online behaviour and how persons interact online, both socially and professionally. So far I’ve done research looking at how persons form impressions about others based on their social networking profiles and how individuals communicate online in the midst of multiple conflicting audiences. If you’re interested or just want to chat about things related, it would be great if you can contact me so we can link up.

Lastly, I’ve got this blog, which I’m hoping to raise my profile professionally, not necessarily in the academic world but in the world that matters most, your world. I’m really a psychologist at heart that has a soft spot for technology and that should make me relevant to a whole lot out there especially in these times where good advice is the best measure of value.

Looking forward to having engaging discussions with you and I hope you enjoy my blog and keep coming back or better yet, subscribe!!!
